Welcome to the Shiner High School Counselor's Corner!

Check this page often for important announcements and college information.
*If you need a copy of your transcript to send to a college, organization, or for any other reason, please download a transcript request form. You can bring it to my office (300F), email it to me [email protected] or fax it (361-594-4295).

**As always, feel free to stop by my office anytime for more information about college, scholarships, tests, or when you need to chat!**

Announcements

ALL PARENTS: I send out periodic emails regarding testing (ACT, SAT, PSAT, etc), scholarships, volunteer and work opportunities, etc. If you are not receiving emails, please email ME and I will add you to the respective group/class. If your child is in 7th-9th grade, I don't usually send out as frequent of emails as I do 10th-12th grades, but I would still love to have you in my group! Again, just email me! [email protected]

Attention 8th - 11th graders: If you are looking for volunteer opportunities in the area, please consider the Spoetzl Brewery, Shiner Chamber of Commerce (Youth Action Team (YAT) form available here ), Pilot Club, or Gaslight Theatre. More info is available in our Google Classroom under CLASSWORK (volunteer info). As I find out about more opportunities, I will let you know!

SENIORS

  • One of the first things you should be working on is APPLYING to your college, university, or trade school. Most schools will use the Apply Texas application or the Common App. Please check your school's admission website for more details.
  • Once you apply, let Mrs. Steffek know so she can send your transcript to where you just applied.
  • Don't forget about using your 2 college days! Use them at some point this school year. Forms are available in the office.
  • TSI scores: if you are not exempt from the TSI from SAT or ACT scores, you most likely will need to take the TSI (Accuplacer). I will get info to you at least a couple of weeks ahead of time when those dates get set. If you do not want to wait to take them at school, I would recommend contacting Victoria College in Gonzales to set up your test date. Cost is $12. Remember to bring me a copy of your scores after you take it! The test will also be offered during the school day at Shiner HS throughout the year. Please stay tuned!
